Trump nominates 'Alpha male' influencer as ambassador to M'sia

United States President Donald Trump has nominated Australian-American influencer, author, and self-described “Alpha male” Nick Adams to serve as the next US ambassador to Malaysia, according to reports.

The New York Times, in a report on Adams’ nomination, described the 40-year-old as a “fawning supporter” of Trump who has amassed a conservative following.

“It is nothing short of a lifetime’s honour to take the president’s goodwill and spread it to the great people of Malaysia,” Adams said in a video posted on X yesterday, which the NYT described as lacking the incendiary rhetoric and vulgar humour that elevated him to political prominence.

Online, Adams is known for his posts promoting a personal image based on “stereotypical symbols of masculinity” like eating steak and frequenting Hooters - the chain restaurant famous for its scantily dressed waitresses.

The NYT further claimed Adams had a history of Islamophobic remarks against Trump’s political rivals in his online commentary, and railing against purported efforts to “teach Islam in schools”.

In announcing the nomination, Trump described Adams as “an incredible patriot and very successful entrepreneur” and also an “inspiration” for his love for America.

Adams, an Australian-born conservative activist, was among five ambassadorial picks submitted for Senate confirmation this week, alongside nominees for Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Kazakhstan.

The speculated changes also came as Malaysia braces for ongoing tariff negotiations.

If appointed, Adams will replace career diplomat Edgard D Kagan, who has served as US ambassador to Malaysia since March last year.
